Reinstatement of Tau Kappa Epsilon

Effective April 20, 2015 the Lambda Chi Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon has been reinstated at Wayne St. College under an agreement that was reached with the college’s administration. Based on some reports, the Dean of Students suspended the WSC TKE Chapter in December 2014. However, subsequent investigations revealed some of the allegations largely were unsubstantiated. The local TKE Chapter and the WSC TKE Alumni Association, and the Dean of Students came to an agreement to make the TKE House a dry house, with no alcohol permitted, and the Chapter agreed to undertake risk management training from TKE Headquarters in Indianapolis IN and from WSC Student Services.

The Wayne State College chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity is proud to be compliant with the agreement between the Dean of Students and our WSC TKE Alumni Association. We will be engaging in a full new member recruitment process on campus in Fall 2015 semester, seeking new men to become members of the TKE Chapter. We are looking for good men, with strong academic potential, active in campus organizations and interested in becoming a member of Wayne State’s oldest and best fraternity.

The TKE chapter in the oldest social organization at Wayne State College and was established in 1967. The TKE House at 814 Nebraska was purchased in 1969 and remains the headquarters of the local chapter. It enjoys substantial financial and moral support from its Alumni Association. Tau Kappa Epsilon has a proud history of civic involvement and has been involved in numerous local charity events and had donated tens of thousands of dollars to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN.

Tau Kappa Epsilon is the world’s largest fraternity and was established in 1899 and counts amongst its Alumni, President Ronald Reagan. There been more than 500 young men who have become members at the Wayne chapter and many of its alumni are successful businessmen, educators and civic leaders. The Alumni and the current graduate members look forward to offering young men leadership and civic opportunities while strengthening friendships that will last a lifetime at Wayne St. College.

The reinstatement includes a probationary period for the fraternity that will last until Jan 31, 2016, at which time leaders of the fraternity will meet with WSC Officials to discuss permanent reinstatement and adherence to mutually agreed upon plan

I could not be more proud of the resilience of this chapter. I truly believe this situation is a blessing in disguise. It has allowed us to come closer together and refocus our values,” Current Chapter President, Matt Lanik said.
